Rob and Mary at South Anjuna Beach on yet another hot day.
Hi Guys, Just a quick note to update you and the fact that I like doing this sort of thing
Just a new trick is capture a still from a HD movie and clean it up and show it as above!
In the UK one would say if it happened "God its a nice day, lets get out and enjoy it" and in South India one would say "just another very hot day so lets keep cool inside"
The prices here seem to go up every other day. There is a MRP on products which means Maximum Retail Price and it is stamped on all goods so it does really help avoiding being ripped off although everyone sticks to it so no discounting going on as that is for the hawkers and street traders which start at twice the price they really want.
Water has to be boiled whether it is from the street or the roof tanks but bottled water is the only way to avoid the dreaded delhi belly
Power cuts are a daily occurance and happen at any time. On some days the power goes off up to five times so you never know when it will hit. Typical 3rd world problems.
On the Technical side of life:
I have finally found a new tech phone I think I can live with and it is 40 pounds less than the UK price at 95 pounds and is unlocked so the Samsung Galaxy Y with E-GPS seems like the answer to navigate some back roads of south India.
Description of the Photos below (Left top to right top to bottom)
1. Cows are sacred but the bulls can be slaughtered we hear. Not much grass around so they tend to wallow in the rubbish and eat cardboard for breakfast - Great
2. Stray dogs are now a major concern as two turn into 300 in just three years and yep they bark and bite as we found out when five of them chased Mary and I on the bikes as we cycled through Arpora the other day. I have never seen Mary cycle so fast, nor me for that matter. God that was scary.
(36,000 Indians died of rabies due to bites, just in the last year.
3. Just caught a glimpse of this elephant amongst the trees as we cycled along.
4. Chilling out at a peaceful part of the beach the other day.
All dental and optical work is over but still more rabies and other vaccinations to be had so departure date is December 15th when we head down south. It should be cooler then.
