Robert Morrison was born 1954 at Wellington New Zealand. His father is a singing teacher and his mother, an artist. He has an older brother and sister. Robert has had many jobs since leaving secondary school at fifteen years of age, most recently he has owned a sound equipment hire and sales company as well as a car stereo company, both of which were sold The Car Stereo Company was sold to Rapid Radio Ltd to allow the world cycle tour.

Mary Morrison, formerly Mary Quinn was born 1953 at Westport County Mayo, Ireland. Her father being a farmer all his life, he still lives with Mary's brother on the farm. Her mother died when she was nine so was bought up by her grandmother until she left secondary school and headed for London then Australia, where she met Robert. They then moved to New Zealand and settled there for twenty three years bringing up two children who have now grown up and left home, leaving Mary & Robert free to cycle the world. Mary is a great chef and specializes in Asian food so will develop her skills and learn from the experience.
