We wild camp as often as possible & have all the comforts of home!

2006-2012:
We have bought a larger tent than the one purchased in the USA in 1997 which has now been buried due to the aluminium poles corroding. We now have this fantastic Italian made tent called a Ferrino Shaba4 which is twice the weight at 7.5KG but worth it because Robert can stand up in it due to its 6' 9" height (2.1m) and the only place to be able to buy it is here but they will ship anywhere and it is only £180.00 which is not bad considering it has an aluminised interior and good strong stitching.
We always have our bikes with us no matter where we are in the world so therefore they stay in the tent with us as well and they lock together simply by the handlebars wedging into each others back rack.
Not forgetting the Dustpan and brush which is one of many essentials to brush the tent floor before packing up. Oh and the foldable toaster which does the toast faster than anything else.
When away from the west we use the Primus any fuel stove but petrol is a bit harsh but it works. Kerosene is really smokey and parafin which is the best, is almost unobtainable in the third world.

2013 On
Aaah but now South America where a bit of a disguise would not be a bad idea so we downsized to a dark green three man tent still from Ferrino but now made in China to their specs and called Skyline, so still strong and aluminised inside and only 4.5kg but add a decent ground sheet and steel pegs complete with a steel hammer and back up to 6kg we go. The Bikes now live outside under a same colour tarp which doubles as a large rain shelter when required and yes it was when entering Chile. The porch is only large enough for one so sitting outside is the key. It has the strongest ground floor we have come across. No decent tents in the UK so forget that. Order from Europe or the US.
MSR Primus All Fuel Cooker at £99.00 Bizarre!
The manual is stupid and the they basically want you to use their gas but Petrol, Kerosene, Pariffin, and Deisel will work but propane/butane gas cans work best.
Gas Toaster - Brilliant as is our Tent Brush & Pan
Indian made Prestige Pico 1.0 Mini at £28.00
It is 1200watts with up/down switch. Brilliant!
We carry it for when we have power and yes it will work on 110 and 230v but the lower the voltage the longer it takes. e.g. 230vac boils 1 litre of water in three minutes. It's electro magnetic zo transfers heat to a magnetic pot or pan hence we carry two stainless pots and pan.
Fold-up Kitchen Sink
Do not forget the kitchen sink from Ortieb and
The Gloves!

1997 - 2004
The photos are of our camping setup when we started, and were taken in one of our wild camps in Morocco 1997.
The Jansport tent was great as it fitted in a rear pannier and Mary can stand up in it (the tent, that is) as well as it being able to store our bikes and we fit in as well, (to sleep, that is). The blue camping towels are small yet very absorbant. The blow up mattresses and towels are by Therm-a-Rest, The 3in1 gloves are by Grandoe (ultra warmth) but the sleeping bags are the worlds best and made by Macpac of New Zealand (Pure down) which we still use today after 15 years of which about two years were in a tent.
