Kenya Tanzania and Zanzibar- Mar 99
We get a bit peed at times! It's a long way from Moyale (at the border with Ethiopia and Kenya) to Lake Tukana as you can see on the map. Worst of all were the roads, typical as shown above. Jimmy taking a nap, he nearly falls over but not quite. Two days later and Mary dares to bathe her feet in the soda lake which we are told is infested with crocs. Finally to a camp site by the lake with natural warm spring water feeding it. Of course Rob is head over heels over this. Or is it heels over head?
Enough of swimming pools, hit the road time again, and off to lake Baringo see picture of the truck, whoops a 150 year old tortoise Oh well similar to the truck, in speed anyway. No shortage of crocs around here either, this one got a fright as the camera got abit too close.
Oh Yes and next door was a nice lodge with a swimming pool, a good place to play yet another game of cards. Ok off we go again and Some odd village on the way and these guys turn the other way, probably they can smell those smelly white people on the truck. Mary finds an old hut so checks out the wares and finds the lady using the bellows with her feet ....
While her husband bashes away to make spears and jewelry. Whow! the equator at last. Below, the famous pink Flamingos by the million as they line the lake full of their favourite fungi. A dramatic site to say the least.
After a few civilized camping spots we hit Nairobi and say goodbye to everyone on the Nile Expedition. Some continue on however.
The end of the Nile Expedition and the beginning of the "six weeker" "Nairobi / Joburg Expedition"
Nairobi looks great in this shot, but imagine a city that hasn't had much done to it since the British left in 1963. After Truck repairs and organizing the new group, Look how keen they are looking out, Mary and Jimmy still clinging on up front. We head south and on better roads, for once, meaning a mere blink and we are in Tanzania.
A late camp in the wilds with Mt Kilimanjaro in the new morning light and Peter, our new driver of the second vehicle, which we called "the ice cream van". Come on guys it doesn't take three to dismantle a pup tent!
A lucky morning because there are 1.75 eggs per person this time and that means 54.25 eggs total. Yes that is the entrance Helenne. Ok great roads now, for Africa, and we hit a croc and snake farm with camping and a bar attached. It's OK Andrew the 12 foot Python won't hurt you, MUCH!
Taking a slight detour as we head for the Serengeti National Park, from Arusha, only stopping for some vege and fruit supplies.

Back to reality after The Serengeti and off to Dar es Salam, Tanzania's capital city of two million.
Let's go to Zanzibar! Sounds exotic doesn't it? Well what a decaying dump. That is a bit harsh, people find it quite intriguing and the spice tour was great. Here we see fresh nutmeg. The beaches aren't bad either. Yes another good experience overall.
